Thank you all for reading the official blog of Her Niche. With the launch of our new website we have a new blog. Please go to http://hernicheproducts.com/news/ for the latest and greatest Her Niche news.
We’re less than two weeks away from Earth Day and our to-do list doesn’t seem to be shrinking. Hmm… Production is officially on, the new bags are turning out even better than we hoped. We’ve pulled together some really cool ways to add even more eco-friendly elements to the bags. The men’s bags will be lined with sails reclaimed from boats in San Diego. And we’re collecting hardware scraps from the Fountain Bleu Casino in Las Vegas (currently under construction) to incoprporate into the bags. These scraps and sails would have otherwise ended up in a landfill, but instead they are turned into beautiful elements in our handbag line.
Trash = Boo
Fashion = Yay
Today we are getting prepared for our photo shoot that takes place tomorrow morning in South Park. The girls at the Be Beauty Boutique graciously offered to do makeup. So we’ll be getting all dolled up there, and then heading over to Her Niche headquarters (AKA Nichole’s living room). The shoot has a very detailed storyboard that we know will convey the style and function of the bags in a beautiful way. The images will be on our website at the end of next week. Just in time for Earth Day!
Stay tuned for more updates as Earth Day approaches. We might have to blog at 2:00 in the morning, but we’ll keep everyone updated! Thanks for reading, and have a great day!
Prophetik, based in Nashville (of all places) is gaining headlines worldwide due to its commitment to fashioning garments out of eco-friendly materials like raw cotton and silk, and employing paint-splatter patterns made by woe-be-gone Thai elephants who are gradually being eliminated because machines now do their heavy lifting. ~ http://eyeseestyle.blogspot.com/
Woo hoo! It’s officially April and we can officially begin our count down to Earth Day. To add to our excitement Her Niche has established a strategic partnership with Prophetik, a super fabulous line of eco-friendly clothing. Seriously, if you don’t know about Jeff Garner’s designs you’re missing out! He creates ultra chic garments for men and women that can be worn everyday, for a night on the town or to Sunday brunch. We’re very honored to partner with such a talented designer. More so, we’re humbled and inspired by his vision…just check out his philosophy and you’ll see what we mean.
As you may have read we are working with NAMTRA Media to create a stellar website. With that comes product and lifestyle shots of Bagonia and Birch bags. And, well it simply wouldn’t do to have our models in anything less than hot eco-chic clothes…So our models will be wearing garments from Prophetik’s unreleased line that will personify and highlight features of the bags. We can’t wait to show you Bagonia’s new designs and of course the new Birch utility bag for men…We’re picking samples up on Friday so we’ll be sure to post pictures this weekend.
Oh, how could we almost forget…We will be doing a live morning show segment with NBC 7/ 39 on Monday, April 20th, so pencil it in and set your alarms :).
Yay, only 21 more days until Earth Day!
Everything is starting to come together…Today was a really exciting day! NAMTRA Media sent over the design of the new Bagonia website. And, we have to say it is pretty freaking FAB-U-LOUS! They even came up with a cute name for our blog hence the title “Blogonia.” To get ready for the launch of our website we are planning our official Bagonia and Birch photoshoot. The shoot is tentatively scheduled for April 10, so we have two weeks to scout locations, models, wardrobe, etc. At least we get to focus on the fun stuff for a while. Nice change of pace. We need these fun things to think about since there’s always the looming challenges that we are working through. Such as production…
We got a call from the factory that the samples are a bit behind schedule. Aaah! That’s why we are here blogging instead of driving back from Los Angeles. But we’re only pushed back a week (could be worse) so we’ll adjust schedules accordingly. We know it’s hard but you’ll all just have to wait one more week to see the new designs.
With Earth Day less than a month away, we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The samples will be ready, a small production run will be done, tags and nameplates will be ordered, marketing material will be created, photos will be online, and we’ll be ready to absorb the anticipated attention from our promotions. So, bring it on, world.
On a completely different note, we have been brainstorming event ideas for Her Niche and are thinking about putting together a concert that promotes local women in music. Her Niche presents Her Music. Catchy, no? We thought so.
Well, enough blogging. Time to chill out and get some creative inspiration for our photoshoot (i.e. drink wine and take sloppy notes).
So we’ve heard the official news…The Earth Day episode of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno with actually be filmed on Earth Day (which is April 22nd – just in case you didn’t know)! We are very excited for The Tonight Show to gift Bagonia and Birch bags to show guests and “friends of the show.” Most excellent! Her Niche is moving toward filling its vision of giving consumers environmentally and fashionable solutions to every day problems.
Starting next month we will be tweeting easy ways to “live green” while still looking fabulous. So don’t miss out…Follow us on Twitter:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HER NICHE IS THE NEW FACE OF GREEN BUSINESS
**Green business is more than clean tech – it’s green fashion with green function**
SAN DIEGO – The new face of green business is that of two young professionals and San Diego entrepreneurs, Adriana Herrera and Nichole MacDonald. The two friends have established Her Niche, a new product development company that combines green fashion with green function to create stylish products that provide innovative environmental solutions. Her Niche’s business model works to create long-term environmental change by redirecting wasteful lifestyle habits of consumers.
“Adriana and I share a vision to create socially responsible and eco-friendly products that actually help women lighten their carbon footprint. In a time when budgets are limited we want to give today’s modern woman options for products that go beyond the norm – that offer cutting edge style and real functionality,” said Her Niche Co-founder and Creative Director, Nichole MacDonald.
“The bad habits of millions of people have resulted in the growing Garbage Patch, depletion of natural resources, destruction of eco-systems and deforestation. We see Her Niche having a positive impact on the environment organically – one person at a time,” said Her Niche Co-founder and Marketing Director, Adriana Herrera.
Her Niche’s first product line is Bagonia. Bagonia is a one-of-a-kind handbag line, made and designed in America by Her Niche. All handbags are 100% cruelty free and made of many components that are derived from organic plants. Each bag contains a secret compartment that stores two or three reusable shopping bags that make it easy to put an end to the plastic and paper bag plague. Bagonia handbags are accessories to live a stylish, organized and eco-friendly life. Never again will women have to think twice about using plastic bags when they carry a Bagonia. Their reusable shopping bags are an indiscreet companion everywhere they go.
Two of Bagonia’s four styles are also compartmentalized with a removable, and machine washable, interior that perfectly organizes the contents of any purse. Small handbags retail for $149.99 and large compartmentalized handbags retail for $199.99. Bagonia bags now available for purchase online at www.bagoniabags.com.

Friday night we went to the IVY for ECO Love and the launch of The N3TWORK. The event was supposed to be an eco-friendly networking event/ party for San Diego’s fabulous eco scene. When we got there we enjoyed some acai vodka martini’s and mojito’s and came to realize that the cocktails were the only “eco” aspect of the event. This was minorly annoying…so many people throw one small “green friendly” thing into their event or product and call it eco and/ or green so they can market it. Well, for those of us who work really hard to really be “green” that’s just lame. Once we realized this we decided to make the most of the night and be the only nerds to go around to people and try to “network.” We successfully, shouted over the music and made friends with several other entrepreneurs who we will now be doing our printing with (yay, toxic free ink).
This week we delivered press kits to San Diego media to promote Bagonia for Earth Day. Our press kits were empty plastic bottles that we used to package our press release and information on the harmful effects of plastic bags (which we wrote on plastic bags). When I spoke with Jesse at NBC 7/ 39 he said that the press kit had made a big impression! The person we dropped off the press kit just placed it on a random desk and didn’t tell anyone…so when the crew was back in the news room they encountered this odd looking bottle and thought it may have been a bomb! Oh no! But it wasn’t a bomb it was “the bomb.” I mean, really, what person isn’t intrigued by a message in a bottle? Now, hopefully they will be interested in learning more about how Her Niche emerged on to the scene and all about Bagonia.
What else, oh we judged the FIDM branding class presentations for a product that is being developed. It was really interesting to see what the students came up with and how they either got or didn’t get the eco-aspect. We’re super thankful to all of them for their work and will be using their final reports in the development of the product (which is aimed to be released in January 2010).
How could we almost forget to mention our Amazing Race Audition!?!? So with the economy in the dumps we continue to chase a phantom investor which leaves us getting creative for funding. We had a creative audition which left the camera man looking at us like we were crazy but hey at least we won’t forget us (or our victory dance).
As usual we continue to make friends where ever we go and are always amazed at how excited people get for us. People really love Bagonia and genuinely want to help us get the word out –yay! When this happens it inspires us and keeps us going. We love making friends and it’s the cherry on our sundae when they are excited about what we do.
So next Friday we are headed to the factory to pick up our new samples. Woot! Woot! Can’t wait to post pictures of them. After we go to the factory we are headed to The Tonight Show to drop of bags so that they can pick which styles they want to give away on Earth Day. Super SUPER exciting!
Follow us on Twitter and you can know the haps as they happen…
Where do we even begin? As we said before when we have the most to say we don’t have the time to say it. Our biggest news is that we’ve secured a promotion with The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for Earth Day! Woot Woot! The Tonight Show will be gifting Bagonia and Birch (the men’s version of Bagonia) to show guests and friends of the show. We’re really excited and can’t wait for them to see how easy it is to have style and be able to help protect the environment at the same time.
In other news, last week we traveled up to LA to work with our manufacturer on creating three new Bagonia style samples and a sample for our men’s line Birch. The new styles are seriously kick ass. You’ll have to wait and see why they are so fabulous (hint – there’s another added feature). Understanding that most men aren’t into carrying around a bag we got creative and headed to the Home Depot to incorporate industrial elements. The Birch bags will give men style and function without putting them into the sissy category.
Also, we’ve been approached by a boutique in the French Rivera that learned about Bagonia from someone in the US and wants to carry the bags! Holla! Bagonia is starting to develop and international reputation.
On Wednesday we met with NAMTRA Media to discuss the development of our website. They are going to be creating a fabulous home Her Niche on the web. Nichole left her Bagonia Bowling Bag with them and they took 120 pictures of it! Product photography is no joke. If you need any type of website, POP display, stuff for your tradeshow NAMTRA, etc. We highly recommend them.
This week while Adriana was returning her rental car she meet one of the friendliest girls ever at Enterprise Mission Valley, Megan. They got to talking and totally clicked. Megan is totally into the “green scene” and chances are will be an awesome new addition to the Her Niche team. Yay Megan!
Coming up next week we will be headed to FIDM to hear the students presentations for the branding of an upcoming product. The presentations are set up Donald Trump Apprentice style so they will definitely be fun.
Lastly (well not really but we don’t want this post to be a manuscript), if you follow us on Twitter you might have also noticed that we have a new logo. And, if you don’t why not?
Keep checking back or subscribe to our blog for some other awesome news…
